Of course you want your wedding to be beautiful, of course you want to make it fun, yet you also want to get details your guests have never seen, unique touches, and most of all you want it personal. The answer is easy, but the process takes a little bit longer. The best way to make your wedding unique is to have details that say something about YOU BOTH, and about no one else. It’s not about lavish ideas or amazing budgets -though sometimes this helps!-, but about finding what makes sense with you and your lifestyle as a couple. It’s showing your guests that you care about them. It’s having a wedding that is both a celebration of love and also a gesture of your appreciation for your family and friends. So, how to make it work?

Talk, talk, talk. That’s always my advice. Before choosing your venue, wedding vendors or wedding planner, you and your fiancé should take a moment to talk and prioritize what matters most to you both. Then, look inside your hearts and ask yourselves: “What makes me smile? What makes me dream? How do I want to remember my wedding?” Only at that point can you start thinking about colors and what they represent to you, about music and the songs you would love to dance to, etc. Details will come soon after that: What are your sources of inspiration? What elements do you want to incorporate? What textures have a meaning to you? Be careful of just following trends. You don’t want to watch your wedding video 10 years later and realize it was TOO 2010!

Here are some helpful questions to guide you:

• Do you want to exchange vows on the beach? Or do you prefer to enjoy the view from a terrace or a lawn?
• How big is your bridal party?
• Are you religious or spiritual? How long will your ceremony last?
• Are you a resort bride? Or would prefer the intimacy of a private villa or restaurant?
• Why is a destination wedding important for you?
• How do you want to remember your wedding?
• What role will your family play? You’ll find that tasks are different when planning a destination wedding.
• Be very honest about the way your budget will function. Spend on things you value but don’t forget to ask the experts how to get your money’s worth.
• How do you envision the whole day?
• What atmosphere are you going for? Formal or casual?
• How late would you like to extend the reception? You will find that many venues have a curfew.
• Do you prefer a sit-down dinner or buffet style?
• How many events would you like to host before/after the wedding day?

The more details you send to your potential vendors, the better your chances of finding the perfect team to work with your flair and personality.

Two little words guaranteed to make your fiancé’s heart skip a beat: “I do.”

Three little words guaranteed to make your wedding planner’s heart do a leap: “You do it.”

Surprisingly, I don’t hear those words enough. I’ve learned that brides sometimes don’t want to be helped, even by the very expert they’ve handpicked for the job.

If a bride with exquisite taste makes the effort to hire a high-end wedding coordinator, shouldn’t the easiest part be to let the professional do their work?

My experience has taught me that this is in fact the hardest part for some brides. Why?

One word: “Trust.”

My advice to brides is simple. Trust yourself to choose the best professional for the event, then extend that trust to them. That way, when you say, “You do it!” to a qualified, experienced wedding planner, you’re not only making them happy, you’re ensuring that the moment will be flawless when you finally say, “I do.”

We are very excited to share with you these beautiful images from the fabulous wedding of Caron and Mike at Esperanza Auberge Resort. We met with them only 5 months before the wedding date for a site inspection. During this visit, a menu tasting, meetings with the photographer, DJ, florist and other vendors were part of the agenda. The most difficult part for Caron was visualizing the flower concept. We did not want to compete with the amazing look of  Esperanza Resort, so we decided to preserve the look, but the same time adding some personal touches and playing with the wedding colors which were orange & pink. It turned out beautifully. Pina Hernandez was in charge of the flower decor.

Personal touches: we loved the escort cards, so check them out! Caron used Mexican tiles with everyone’s names on it.  Then, instead of the traditional guest book, the couple chose a beautiful book about Los Cabos. I personally loved how Caron incorporated small pictures of her grandmothers to her bouquet, it was a very nice way to have them be part of her wedding.

Nice touches: Cigar roller at the reception and Fire Works during cake cutting!
